The longstanding iFarm BBQ established 45 years ago by Perth dairy producers, continues its mission to educate elementary school children about agriculture.
It’s grown to include dairy, egg, chicken, pork, beef, and grain farmers.
Open to the general public, the free community BBQ on Tuesday (June 11) runs from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Stratford Rotary Complex.
Tim Shute, chairman of the Perth Dairy Product Committee, says the public can interact with local producers and learn about farming practices and how food products are made available to consumers.
The event will feature live animals, including dairy cows, beef animals, and the Pork Mobile— a trailer with a glass viewing side displaying a Sow with piglets. This provides a hands-on educational experience for children.
The BBQ will offer back bacon, pork, beef, and ice cream.
“As agricultural producers, we think it’s very important for us to make a connection with the general consumer and try to explain how the food is produced, and how we are doing the very best to make top quality food available for everyone in the community,” Shute concludes.
This event is an opportunity for agricultural producers to connect with the community, explain food production processes, and emphasize their commitment to providing quality food.
