Stratford City Council is set to vote Monday night (June 24) on purchasing seven new hybrid vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Brent Raycraft, Supervisor of Fleet, recommends via a management report, accepting bids for six hybrid pickups for $467,432.05, and another for one hybrid SUV at just $66,267.72.

These purchases, part of the 2024 Capital Budget, aim to replace the city’s aging gasoline-powered vehicles.

The new hybrids are expected to cut fuel use by 30 per cent and reduce emissions.

Delivery of the vehicles is expected in about 150 days, or longer.

The hybrids will lower future operating costs through reduced repairs and fuel consumption.

The purchase also promotes low-carbon transport, helping to reduce the city’s overall carbon footprint.

And by replacing older, less efficient vehicles, the city aims to reduce waste and pollution, contributing to a zero-waste goal, according to the report.

This decision aligns with Stratford’s goals for sustainability and efficient resource use.

Stratford City Council’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at city hall.
