Small fire Tuesday at former Krug property site

Stratford Fire Department were called to 93 Trinity St. on Tuesday for a small fire.

Fire chief Neil Anderson said the fire was in a hopper, which is attached to the exterior of the building at the property, which includes the former Krug manufacturing facility.

Contractors were prepping a metal hopper for removal by cutting it out with torches when the wall of the hopper ignited.

Contractors used extinguishers on site.

Anderson said some residual items in and around the hopper, including chip and saw dust caught fire.

Firefighters were called at 5:12 p.m. Upon arrival, flames were on the outside of the hopper and an exterior window of the third floor, adjacent to the hopper, with a small amount of smoke present.

By 5:40 p.m. the fire was completely out. There was little to no loss and no injuries.

There are extensive development plans underway, including a public meeting that could happen on Thursday about plans for the site.
