Fireworks are ready to launch for Canada Day in Stratford

Get ready for some fireworks.

Kinsmen Club of Stratford are ready to host the annual Proud to be Canadian Celebration on Monday, July 1 at the Stratford Education and Recreation Centre (SERC).

Bob Walters, a long-time volunteer with the Kinsmen Club, told My Stratford Now they haven’t held the parade in a few years but continue to handle the fireworks.

Walters said the fireworks, costing over $25,000, are supplied by Fireworks FX, a major sponsor over the years.

Donations for the fireworks come from the City of Stratford, sponsors, and the community has the option to donate on the day of.

Walters noted that the event usually attracts 5,000 to 7,000 people for the fireworks and outdoor concert.

Various food vendors will be on-site, including Ken’s Fries, Crazee Kernels, and Domino’s Pizza.

Although the event is free, donations are encouraged to support the fireworks display. Proceeds help fund local community projects.

The event, a tradition for over 30 years, starts at 7 p.m. and features a concert at 8 p.m. with local musician Steve Adair (better known as Yeager) and the New Boys.

Fireworks start at dusk.
