Stratford Pride Community Centre and Stratford Perth Pride are uniting into one organization.
Brock Hart, Chair of Stratford’s Pride Community Centre, tells My Stratford Now that the decision to unify both organizations arose from confusion and overlap.
“The confusion that it was creating in the community was really the main driver behind combining the two organizations,” says Hart.
Effective July 1, the unified entity aims to simplify resources, reduce duplication, and better support the community, particularly focusing on youth and mental health.
Brock highlights the critical need for community belonging and safe spaces, particularly for Trans and queer youth.
“We have had too many kids die by suicide, and that is a failure of all of us when that happens. We really need more programming for kids and youth; they just need more support,” he says.
As of July 1, a new Chair will be appointed for the unified organization that will solely be under the name, Stratford Perth Pride.
