Police team up to combat the big four charges

Several police services worked together with Stratford police to target the four main offences that lead to motor vehicle fatalities: speeding, seat belts, cell phones, and impaired driving.

Switching between communities throughout the year to help each other out, Woodstock, London and St. Thomas were in Stratford on Tuesday (June 25) for the traffic initiative, which led to 72 total charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Two vehicles were impounded for 14 days for stunt driving and two people had their driver’s licenses suspended for the same period of time.

One of the stunt driving charges involved a pick-up truck that did 360 degree
spins (doughnuts) in the middle of the intersection, at Romeo Street South and Ontario
Street.

The other involved a driver travelling 50 km/h over the 60 km/h zone on Erie
Street.

A driver stopped shortly before 11 a.m.at Huron and St Vincent streets displayed signs of being impaired by a drug. The 66-year-old male resident of Seaforth was charged with operation while impaired.
