Erie Street closed after 6,000 pounds of cargo falls out of transport truck

Traffic on Erie Street was snarled earlier this week after a transport truck lost 6,000 pounds of cargo.

Stratford police say the truck lost six metal carts, weighing 1,000 pounds each, near Lorne Avenue East on Tuesday at about 10 a.m.

The carts housed large cylinders spread across three lanes of traffic for both north and southbound lanes. Erie Street was closed for one hour.

An investigation revealed the total load was 10,000 pounds and secured by only two rachet straps with a maximum load rating of just 1,000 pounds each.

The driver and the company are charged with having an insecure load under the Highway Traffic Act.
