OPP say victim interview room will reduce stigma

To help with stigma and barriers for victims, Perth OPP and other local organizations have designed what they call a family-friendly, welcoming space for victims and witnesses to provide statements.

Det.-Sgt. Tara Bolstad of Perth OPP said the the victim interview room is equipped with things that you would not typically find in a police interview room and it is the first of it’s kind in Perth County.

Bolstad said the space was created with trauma-informed care in mind, with a comfortable and supportive environment, helping people feel physically and emotionally safe.

Victim Services Huron and Perth, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society, Optimism Place, and the Municipality of North Perth helped with the project.

Perth OPP invite the public to the grand opening of the new victim interview room at the North Perth Municipal Office/OPP Detachment in Listowel, on Wednesday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
