Stratford Perth Centre for Business has announced the launch of five new student-run small businesses through the Summer Company program.
The program offers students ages 15 to 29 the opportunity to start their summer businesses with hands-on training, mentorship, and financial grants of up to $3,000.
Among them is Keyboard Wizard. Founder Riley Cant says his business customizes keyboards for a personalized experience.
“I’ve seen a little bit of a gap in personalized keyboard companies. So, I was like hey, let’s create one myself so there’s an easy way for people to to access the service,” said Cant.
Cant advises aspiring young entrepreneurs to stay creative, find their passion, and drive it home.
Mayor Martin Ritsma said The Summer Company program not only equips young adults with practical business skills but also instills a sense of responsibility and leadership.
“So there’s lots of benefits and you never know when some might end up being a full-fledged entrepreneur in our area,” said Ritsma.
Matthew Rae, MPP of Perth-Wellington, said it is great to see the next generation of entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life, and it takes grit and determination to start your own business.
Joani Gerber, CEO of investStratford, added that the extended support and funding for the Small Business Enterprise Centre underscores their commitment to nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit in Stratford and Perth County.
The initiative provides mentorship and provincial grants totaling $15,000 to young entrepreneurs.
