With a couple of hundred animals already in care and another 63 on a surrender list waiting for help, the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is urging community members to consider adopting.
Another option is becoming a foster parent.
The society says centres in Stratford and Kitchener are at capacity, and struggling to find more space.
Victoria Baby, chief executive officer, says the humane society encourages families to open their hearts and homes and become foster parents.
Foster caregivers provide temporary homes while animals wait for a forever homes.
The walk-in adoption event is Wednesday, July 10, from noon to 7:30 p.m. at the Stratford Perth Humane Society on Griffith Road.
You don’t need an appointment but if planning to adopt a pet, you should bring all of your household members for a meet and greet, including your family dog if you have one.
Adoption fees will be reduced for some adult dogs and cats and adult dog and cat adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and vaccines.
The Humane Society also has more than 20 kittens up for adoption.
