Conservation authority urges caution around waterways

Those heavy rains earlier this week continue to impact safety in the area.

Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says the Upper Thames River basin received up to 170mm of rain over the past week, ending late Wednesday.

The ground continues to be saturated, the conservation authority said, and streams and rivers across the watershed are still elevated.

The conservation authority continues to operate its flood control reservoirs at Wildwood Conservation Area in Perth County, as well as Fanshawe in London and Pittock Conservation Area in Woodstock, to reduce downstream peak flows.

Discharges below the reservoirs will remain elevated into the weekend.

Due to high water levels, Wildwood’s reservoir is temporarily closed to boating traffic.
