Vibrant Latin culture comes to Stratford for World in a Weekend Festival

Vibrant Latin culture is coming to Stratford this week for the World in a Weekend: International Puppet and Music Festival.

The Viva Mexico Mariachi band is set to perform on Thursday, Aug. 1, offering an evening of lively mariachi music.

Viva Mexico Mariachi has been Toronto’s leading mariachi band, known for their diverse and talented musicians and celebrated Mexican musical tradition.

Eileen Smith, Artistic Producer at SpringWorks festivals, told MyStratfordNow that this festival is an opportunity to bring other styles and cultures of puppetry and music to Stratford.

“When we can partner with Summer Music to present an exciting evening, in a fulsome experience of a culture, it’s an opportunity to listen, experience, play, and dance,” Smith said.

She noted they have several artists from Mexico or those who share work in the Latin repertoire and styles.

The mariachi band will perform at Factory 163 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are priced between $15 and $45.

Afterwards, there will be a Latin dance party at 9:30 p.m., where people can learn basic salsa and Latin moves, led by dance professionals.
