A new puppetry show about refugee migration is having its Canadian debut in Stratford.
Artistic Directors for Paradox Teatro, Sofia Padilla and Davey T Steinman, are bringing their popular show, Migraciones, to Canada for the first time.
Steinman says they want to connect with audiences and share a new kind of art form.
“The goal is to use visual and music performance to communicate with audiences across cultural barriers and language barriers. Using that for the topic of migrations is important to share perspectives about migrations,” he said.
Padilla says the topic of refugee migration is important because it’s an ongoing crisis.
Having their own experience with migration, they can reflect with the audience after talking about their own stories.
“Storytelling can be very healing and powerful in our lives,” said Padilla.

They love being in the theatre lifestyle because of the connection formed with people through stories.
Their show entertains and also educates through workshops where they teach their techniques.
Steinman and Padilla also make their own puppets from scratch. They both encourage Stratford residents to attend their workshops and share their connections.
The duo, based in Minneapolis, started their puppetry company in 2017.
The first Migraciones performance will be on Friday at 2 p.m at Factory 163. For tickets and more information, visit worldinaweekend.ca.
