Symposium held in Clinton discussed gender-based violence

The important topic of gender-based violence was discussed recently in Clinton.

A symposium titled “Recognize, Respond, Refer: A School-Based Approach to Addressing Gender-Based Violence” was hosted by the Avon Maitland District School Board’s Heather Hirdes, and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board’s Kaitie Westbrook.

The event was held in collaboration with the Stop Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee of Perth County (StopVAW) and saw the coordinating committee share its expertise regarding gender-based violence.

The symposium was attended by community school-based service providers, so they can learn more about gender-based violence and how to recognize and respond to it.

Ninety-five municipalities in Ontario have declared intimate partner violence an epidemic including the City of Stratford.
