The fundraising kick off, Unite for a Bite, held by United Way Perth-Huron was a delicious success.
The event held Friday at Market Square in Stratford celebrated the beginning of the 2024 fund-raising year for the organization.
The annual lunch was well attended by sponsors, locals and businesses.
“As always, Stratford and Perth County unite as does Huron County and there’s some amazing things happening already,” said campaign co-chair John Wolfe.
Executive Director Ryan Erb addressed the large crowd gathered to express thanks and a desire for change. He then touched on the new United Housing project being undertaken by the organization.
“We can’t solve some of the problems we’re facing as a community without affordable housing,” said Erb.
United Way Perth-Huron announced its ambitious campaign fundraising goal for this year, $2,624,772.
This $300,000 increase is mainly due to inflation, Erb said, as the United Way funds over 40 local organizations in the community, many of which have not had an increase in government funding in recent years.
They are also trying to raise more money for the connection centre due to an increased need for those who are experiencing homelessness in the region.
Fifteen per cent of the goal has already been reached.
“We’re really excited that we have so many people that make this a special, special day for the organizations,” expressed Erb.
