Dust off the dancing shoes for a silent disco dance party

It’s time to dust off your dancing shoes for this weekend’s To Thine Own Groove silent disco dance party, at the Stratford Perth Museum.

On Saturday, the museum is soft launching its new exhibit “To Thine Own Self”, a collaborative effort with the Stratford Festival Archives which has been produced by Kelly McIntosh, the museum’s general manager.

This costume and audio exhibit looks at 10 performances celebrating gender inclusivity that have been presented on the Stratford Festival stages over the past 50 years. It celebrates the LGBTQ2SIA+ community as well as embraces and admires how the cast and crew brought the characters and stories to life on stage.

Megan Patterson, manager of education and programs at the Stratford Perth Museum explained how they wanted to create a positive and celebratory event to bring people together. Patterson wants people to take away from the event and the subsequent exhibit a sense of belonging and identity.

“We’d like them to understand that it’s okay to be you, it’s okay to be yourself. And there’s many different versions of ourselves and we want to celebrate all those versions and bring people together so they can appreciate one another,” expressed Patterson.

The free event starts at 7 p.m. and has been done in partnership with Destination Stratford. The exhibit will run until Summer 2025.
