Seven years in the making: County approves new Official Plan

Perth County Council has announced the approval of a new Official Plan.

The Official Plan is a strategic planning document that guides the long-term vision for growth and development of land within the county.

It determines how community needs for various uses such as agriculture, growth, housing, employment, and natural environment will be managed.

This multi-year project to update the Official Plan began in 2017 and involved an extensive seven-phase approach.

The update is reflective of provincial policy updates as well as current community concerns, priorities and values.

The current Official Plan in place was created in the late 1990’s.

Following council’s approval last week, staff will submit the new plan document to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for final approval.

Once reviewed and approved, the 2024 Official Plan will replace the current one as well as those of the lower tier member municipalities to act as a guiding document.

The New Official Plan will be in effect until 2046.
