It was an opportunity for city council to recognize and celebrate local teams and individuals for outstanding accomplishments over the last year.
Community Recognition Awards were held Tuesday at Stratford Rotary Complex.
Three hundred and eleven individuals were recognized for their work and dedication to a wide array of organizations, sports and clubs.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma explained the ceremony’s importance in honouring the accomplishments of these individuals.
“It celebrated people that achieved things locally, provincially, nationally, and in some cases internationally. And in all aspects of you know, activities, whether it’s athletics, whether it’s clubs, whether it’s music,” said Ritsma.
Recipients include groups like Girl Guides’ Canada Cord Award winners, Audrey Riehl and Lily Milliken, teams like the Stratford Junior Warriors U10 Alliance AA Championship winning team, and individuals like Lydia Pyzowski, silver medalist at Gymnastics Ontario.
It also covers a wide range of sports such as swimming, tennis and fencing but also Ontario Music Festival winners and step-dancing competitors.
The awards ceremony recognized citizens of all ages, from the Minor Girls Softball Stratford Flames U11 Ontario provincial championship winners to the Canadian Senior Games athletes.
