The launch of the new unattached care clinic by the Huron Perth and Area Ontario Health Team means residents without doctors now have access to primary healthcare.
Designed collaboratively with the eight family health teams in the counties, the clinics are specifically for residents without a primary care provider and will provide much-needed access to acute, chronic, and preventive care services out of all ready existing healthcare facilities.
Robin Spence Haffner, Director at Listowel and Wingham Family Health Team, spoke with MyStratfordNow to share more about the important work that will be happening in the clinics.
“We’ve been able to establish those unattached care clinics where we have nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, and nurses who can really help people who don’t have access to primary care, don’t have a family doctor, get that care,” said Spence Haffner.
Spence Haffner says the province has “hit a crisis point”, as more than 2.5 million Ontarians are currently without a family doctor.
The clinics are located in Stratford, Listowel, Wingham, Goderich, Zurich, and Exeter, reaching residents within a 40 km radius of each site.
Appointments are required for the clinics and can be booked by calling the clinic nearest to them.
While the clinics help unattached patients get the care they need, it is encouraged to register with Healthcare Connect to find a permanent family doctor.
