One Stratford resident has endured a life of health struggles and hardships and has taken pen to paper to tell her story.
Diane Sims’ memoir Living Beyond the Shadow is not just a reflection on illness and mortality but is equally a celebration of resilience, passion, and the human spirit.
Sims has had many health issues arise during her life which include multiple sclerosis, cancer, and other serious, debilitating medical conditions.
Knocked down but not out, the author shares a powerful retelling of her determination and strength through her triumphs and tragedies.
Last year, Sims decided she would control her own end of life through committing to a medical assistance in dying (MAID) program when the time is right for her.
“I always said I was going to die on my own terms,” expressed Sims.
The book is considered “a thought-provoking, ultimately human story with powerful lessons for all.”
“As long I can continue to find joy and gratitude, I’m living,” said Sims.
You can meet the author and purchase the book during the Stratford launch this Friday at Fanfare Books from 6 – 9 p.m.
The book is also available for purchase online.
