Donate a ‘Light of Love’ to a lost loved one this holiday season

The holiday season can be hard for those who have lost a loved one.

Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth looks to honour those who have passed with their Lights of Love campaign.

The hospice is currently hosting its 6th annual campaign until the official lighting ceremony next Friday (Nov. 29).

You can go online and donate to dedicate a light of love, along with a special message, in memory of someone lost or to honour the life of a loved one.

Lucie Stuart, Director of Fund Development & Stewardship for the hospice foundation, explains that the event brings the community together for a good cause.

“Lights of Love is really a chance for people to come together, remember somebody special, support the hospice,” said Stuart.

Melissa McManus, who works in social work and bereavement for the hospice, explains that this time of year can be difficult for those who have experienced loss.

“So we’re hoping this can be supportive space for the community as well,” said McManus.

The official lighting ceremony will be held on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. under the pavilion at Greenwood Court in Stratford.

Formal remarks will start the evening, followed by a candle light procession to the front of the hospice.

Musical guests will also be featured as will a slideshow of the Lights of Love messages dedicated to those who have passed.

Fundraising is essential for the hospice, as they are only 50 per cent government funded, leaving the other half to be fundraised.

“Every donation adds up and it all has an impact on those who are in the hospice,” said Stuart.
