Perth OPP have launched an investigation after a West Perth resident fell victim to a text scam.
Police were alerted on Feb. 7, after a parent was defrauded of $3,000. They received a text message from someone claiming to be their daughter, asking for the money.
While OPP continue to investigate, they remind everyone to beware of potential scams by following these tips:
- Be suspicious of calls or texts that require immediate action.
- Never send money or any other funds to unverified persons.
- Confirm the identity and legitimacy of the story from the family member before completing any transactions.
Anyone with information is asked to call OPP or Crime Stoppers.
