GOJHL playoffs: Comeback attempt falls short for Warriors

It was a spirited comeback attempt for Stratford Warriors.

The Warriors found themselves in a big hole against Chatham Maroons on Wednesday night, but ultimately fell 5-4 in Game 1 of the GOJHL Western Division semifinal at Chatham’s Memorial Arena.

Hunter Nagge of the Warriors cancelled out Dylan Richter’s goal in the opening period, but Brody Gillis, Sean Truby, Cruz Ferguson and Ian Lachance all scored for the Maroons to make it 5-1.

Dominic Marshall scored with 52 seconds left in the second period for the Warriors and teammates Joseph Curtin and Quinn Kipfer scored in the final period to narrow the margin.

Game 2 is in Stratford on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Also Friday, St. Marys Lincolns host London Nationals in Game 1 of their semifinal, also at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 is Sunday in London, 7 p.m., at the Western Fair Sports Centre.
