Perth County approves $71M budget, 11% increase over last year

Perth County has approved its 2025 budget, with more than an 11 per cent increase from last year.

At its meeting on Thursday (April 10), county council adopted the 2025 capital and operating budgets in principle.

The total budget includes $71.7 million of total spending through the operating and capital budgets.

This breaks down into $60.7 million in operations and $11 million in capital projects.

The operating budget covers the county’s day-to-day operations, such as winter plowing, county road repairs and delivering Paramedic Services.

The capital budget covers larger infrastructure projects, such as road resurfacing and vehicle replacements.

Perth County Warden Doug Kellum explained that “council understands the financial pressures faced by municipal governments” and says that the budget “was carefully reviewed to ensure all opportunities for cost-saving measures were considered while still maintaining current service levels.”

Kellum said that due to inflationary pressures, council worked to mitigate this year’s increase by pausing some proposed projects for consideration.

The budget is set to be passed at the next county council meeting on Thursday (April 17), completing the process for this year.
