With warmer temperatures right around the corner, the City of Stratford will be conducting its annual spring hydrant flushing starting on Monday (April 14).
Done in the spring and fall, the flushing cleans out iron deposits that can build up over time in the city’s watermains.
This preventative maintenance may temporarily discolour the city’s water as a result.
Discoloured water will clear, but it is advised to wait until it runs clear before use or consumption.
You can clear the discoloured water by running cold water for 10 to 15 minutes.
If the water doesn’t clear after 15 minutes, turn off the water and wait 30 minutes, then repeat the process until the water clears.
For more information, visit the City of Stratford’s Discoloured Water webpage, or call its Water Division at 519-271-0250, ext. 5222 during business hours.
