Bethel Church in Stratford is hosting an interactive event ahead of Easter.
Stations of the Cross are set-up throughout the church.
Paster Melissa McLaren said it’s an educational opportunity during Holy Week.
“Each room is designed to help you walk through what Jesus would have walked through and what disciples would have walked through, leading up to the cross.”
At the first station guests hold a stone, which represents the weight of sin. The stone is carried through the rest of the stations and dropped off at the cross at the last station, symbolizing that it does not “leave with us.”
“So it’s a profound experience to be able to walk through and understand what Jesus did for us.”
McLaren said Evangelical churches are realizing they need to understand the weight of what Jesus did, noting that the Catholic church has done that for years.
Pastor Charlie Swartwood said the stations provide an opportunity to interact and reflect on what Jesus Christ has done for us.
“This is a time of spiritual renewal. It’s a time when we can have our devotion to Christ strengthen,” he said.
Swartwood said it’s the most important week of the year, and the “most important event in all of history” is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Stations of the Cross continues today (April 16) at Bethel Church until 9 p.m.
