Stratford Fighting Irish are the Ontario Super Hockey League champions.
The local senior hockey club secured the title with a 4-2 win over the Strathroy Jets.
Commentator Brian Hawley relived some of the excitement from Game 7 over the weekend.
He told MyStratfordNow the Irish showed a lot of character, fighting back from a 2-0 deficit.
After Justin Polillo cut the deficit in half, Jaden Peca tied the game in the second period and and his second marker of the night at about the the 10-minute mark of the final period stood up as the winner.Â
Justin Murray scored an empty netter with about 25 seconds left after blocking a shot, icing the decision, to the delight of fans over the weekend at William Allman Memorial Arena.
“It capped off and set off a celebration that was very memorable in the rink, I’ll tell you that,” Hawley said.
Hawley said the team fought through a lot this season on and off the ice.
“Just can’t say enough about the character of the young men in that room.”
