Rabidoux apologizes after satire site highlights some of his social media posts

Federal Perth-Wellington NDP candidate Ethan Rabidoux has apologized for social media posts he made between four and seven years ago.

Canadian political satire website True North Times highlighted the posts in an article yesterday.

Some of the posts raise concerns over whether Rabidoux’s views are in line with those of the NDP. Another refers to an assault rifle as a “magnificent instrument of democracy”.

They date back to a time when Rabidoux was a Conservative.

In a statement he says his worldview has changed dramatically since the posts were made and they do not represent his current beliefs.

In response CHP candidate Irma DeVries said the posts make her wonder what Rabidoux stands for.

Independent Roger Fuhr called the comments “alarming” and that while nobody is perfect the NDP “did not choose their candidate very wisely.”

Liberal Stephen McCotter says the comments were “disturbing and unfortunate” but that he’s trying to move on and focus on the issues.

Conservative John Nater said he’s focused on the voters in Perth-Wellington and that he’d let Rabidoux speak for himself on his comments.

The Green Party’s Nicole Ramsdale did not respond to an email asking for her reaction by press time.
