UPDATE: 2:49 p.m. Tuesday
One person is recovering from serious injuries and a motel just east of Stratford has been completely destroyed by fire.
Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall tells MyStratfordNow.com the Forest Motel is a complete write off after a fire broke out at it on Tuesday morning.
First responders were called to the motel around 9:30 Tuesday morning and they found the structure fully engulfed in flames on arrival.
Marshall says one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and adds the heavy snow falling helped drive the flames through the building’s roof.
He says 24 firefighters from Sebringville, Shakespeare and Milverton helped battle the blaze and they currently still trying to supress the flames.
Marshall adds fire crews are expected to be on the scene into the evening and they are asking people to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
He says the blaze serves as a reminder that fires can happen anywhere at any time and you should always check your smoke detector to make sure it’s working properly.
