Jack O’Donnell scored the winner in overtime to lead the Listowel Cyclones to the Sutherland Cup championship on Sunday night.
O’Donnell’s 10th goal of the playoffs lifted the Cyclones to a 4-3 win, as they took the best-of-seven provincial junior B championship in five games over their Perth County rivals in front of a home crowd of nearly 1,300 at Steve Kerr Memorial Arena.
The Cyclones jumped out to a 2-0 lead with Wylie Burkett and Wyatt Kerr scoring in the opening period. Chase MacQueen-Spence and Josh Cornfield replied for the Lincolns scored on the power play in the second period to tie the game.
Maddox Callens scored again with the man advantage to give the Lincolns a 3-2 lead in the first period. Birkett tied the game on the power play for the Cyclones.
Dixon Grimes had 35 saves for Listowel. Brandon Abbott stopped 41 shots for St. Marys.
The Cyclones defeated the Stratford Warriors in the Cherrey Cup Final before eventually moving on to claim the top prize in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
