Stratford-Perth Pride March commences this weekend

The annual Perth County Pride March is Sunday (June 2) in Stratford.

The march starts at 1 p.m. and will commence from Tom Patterson Theatre along Lakeside Drive to Upper Queens Park.

Festivities continue with Pride in the Park from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature food trucks, vendors, community resources, and performances by CirqueSmith, Stratford Dance Co, and live music.

The board chair of Stratford-Perth Pride, Melissa Marcelissen, highlighted the historical significance of the event in a discussion with My Stratford Now.

“So I think for us it’s bringing people together, it’s really such a great representation of how much support we really do have in Stratford and in the area because there can be days as a queer person that, you know, you hear a lot of really hard messages and you hear an awful lot about the people that aren’t supportive.

And when you come out to an event, like Stratford Perth Pride, it’s just a re-affirmation that sometimes those voices are allowed.”

The organizing committee welcomes volunteers. Interested individuals can reach out via email at [email protected] or through social media on Instagram and Facebook at Stratford Perth Pride.
Expect road closures
As part of the event, several roads are closed. From noon to 2 p.m., sections of Lakeside Drive, Richard Monette Way, Parkview Drive, and Queen’s Park Drive will be closed. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., part of Richard Monette Way will also be closed.
