The Here for Now Theatre is taking over the historic Perth County Registry Office building at 24 Saint Andrew Street and turning it into its new permanent home.
Founding Artistic Director, Fiona Mongillo of Here for Now said she sporadically produced  the company in different venues across Stratford.
She oversees the company’s operations, including programming plays and shaping theater seasons.
The old archives building, once slated for demolition, was chosen for its suitability as a theatre.
“We walked in, and I just felt like it was a theater,” Mongillo said.
The building’s thick concrete walls are ideal for sound insulation, and its size fits the company’s intimate, close-up style, with a maximum audience of 60.
Mongillo envisions the new theater as a community hub.
“We want it to feel open and like a part of our community,” she said. The focus will remain on new plays, often presented in a one-act format for greater accessibility.
“Having this space allows us to focus all our energy on what we’re doing,” Mongillo stated.
The new season starts Wednesday with the world premiere of “Paul and Linda Plan a Threesome,” at their current theatre location at 35 Waterloo St. North.
Renovations for the new venue will begin soon, with the grand opening scheduled for May or June of 2025.
