Adopt-A-Family this upcoming holiday season

The upcoming season can be daunting for some in the community, especially those who can’t afford the hefty holiday price tag.

This is what Adopt-A-Family Stratford aims to help with.

The program, in its fifth season, wants to spread some “Christmas magic” by aiding low-income families in the city get gifts and groceries.

Ashley Jantzi, one of the three volunteer administrators that run the holiday program, spoke with MyStratfordNow about seeing the need in the community.

“Inflation has skyrocketed, but wages haven’t kept up. So theres a lot more families now, then what we’ve seen even in previous years that need that helping hand,” said Jantzi.

And the number of families they support keeps rising.

They currently have 35 families in need, but still have a few more weeks until registration closes on Dec. 2.

And while they have around 12 sponsors eager to lend a helping hand, the deficit requires them to look for more.

Sponsors can be individuals, businesses, families, congregations or organizations.

The sponsors aid in the purchasing of gift cards for the family in need who then receive a $50 gift card per child for a personal gift and a $50 grocery gift card for the family for a holiday dinner.

“This program is really a To Stratford, Love Stratford, so we would love to see the community help out the community,” said Jantzi.
