Are you prepared for a severe climate event?
That’s what the Climate Conversations’ series next topic hopes to help with.
The next event in the series, and the final one for this year, will be held Nov. 28 and looks at adapting to a changing world.
It will deal with being prepared for severe climate events such as floods, hurricanes, forest fires and more.
Sheila Clarke, an organizer of Climate Conversations and member of Climate Momentum, spoke with MyStratfordNow about the inevitability of these severe climate events.
“The questions are if those things are going to happen, how are we going to be prepared? How do we make sure we come out the other end?” said Clarke.
The event will discuss strategies and topics used to withstand the destructive results of climate change, which will save lives and property.
Special guest speaker will be Dr. Gordon McBean is an award-winning scientist and specialist in loss reduction from climate events.
He will share steps both cities and individuals can take in regards to water management, urban forestry, buildings and construction as well as personal preparedness.
“It’s not a topic where you want to dwell on the horrors of what might be, but it is an important topic,” explained Clarke.
There will also be booths at the event from the Emergency Response team from the City of Stratford as well as the Red Cross.
The event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Army Navy Hall on Lorne Avenue.
