Whether councillor, mayor or warden, Jim Aitcheson was dedicated to his community

The County of Perth has announced the death of Jim Aitcheson.

Aitcheson, a county councillor, mayor and a past warden, “was a bright spirit and had a significant impact on people in both his personal and political life,” the county said in a release.

Warden Rhonda Ehgoetz spoke with MyStratfordNow about Aitcheson’s impact on council and the community.

“I had the pleasure of working with Jim as a fellow member of county council, and I was also very fortunate to be his deputy warden for three years. Him and I worked very well together. He had great compassion for our community and he loved what he did. We’re all going to really miss him,” Ehgoetz said.

Aitcheson was first elected as councillor for Downie Ward in the Township of Perth South in 2006, and served until 2022 when he was elected mayor. He spent 13 years on county council and was elected warden for three years, from 2019 to 2022.

Aitcheson was on a leave of absence from council before his death.

In honour of his life and service to the community, the flag at the county courthouse and Stratford city hall have been lowered in his honour.
