Feds pour funding into crime prevention in Stratford

The Government of Canada has recently announced the investment of more than $1 million towards crime prevention in Stratford.

Dominic LeBlanc, minister of public safety, democratic institutions and intergovernmental affairs, announced the federal investment last week to prevent gun crime and gang violence in the city.

The investment will address the ‘root causes’ of crime by supporting community led projects for youth involved in gangs or those who are at risk of joining them.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma, expressed thanks to the federal government in their funding efforts to “address the ever-changing needs” of Stratford’s youth.

Investing in crime prevention is part of the federal government’s strategy to combat gun violence in Canada.

A media release stated that “the Government of Canada will continue to put in place robust measures to keep Canadians safe.”
