Stratford House of Blessing hosting food drive this Saturday

It’s a time to give to those facing food insecurity.

The Stratford House of Blessing is hosting its Easter Food Drive this Saturday (April 12).

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Stratford Police Service, Stratford Fire Department, Perth County EMS and volunteers will be collecting items at four grocery stores in Stratford; Food Basics, No Frills, Walmart and Zehrs.

Resource Coordinator for the House of Blessing, Aaron Balzer, explained that the food drives they host at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are critical for the food bank.

“It’s a really big part of keeping our shelves full and having what we need to support our community, those facing food insecurity.”

For the upcoming drive, they have specific needs which include side dishes, crackers, cookies, peanut butter, kids school snacks (peanut free), soup, canned meat, pasta sauce and rice.

In addition to food, the organization can also accept some perishable items as well as hygiene, cleaning and baby products.

Balzer said that the House of Blessing relies almost entirely on donations, both financial and physical, and explained that the need for the food bank increases every year.
