AMDSB launches new campaign to support student attendance

The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) is reminding students about the importance of regular school attendance as the final weeks of the school year approach with their new campaign, I AM Here.

In a press release, the board is encouraging students to stay motivated and continue making regular attendance a priority to maintain momentum, as regular school attendance is fundamental to student success.

Research says that missing 10 per cent of school or two days a month, has a “notable” impact on academics.

The campaign also aims to provide staff, students and parents or caregivers with the necessary tools to bolster attendance across Huron and Perth.

The focus on student attendance will be supported by a team of professionals, called the Attendance Counsellors.

Students, parents or caregivers can contact their school Principal to access the support of one of these counsellors.

System Principal, Ed Havenga says that the campaign “provides information and resources for students and families who might need extra support,” and explains “it is never too late to make connections with your school community to support a student’s attendance.”
