Stratford Police reminding you about water safety after teen’s kayak tips over on the Avon River

A reminder to keep water safety front of mind after a young man was tipped from his kayak on the Avon River.

Stratford Police Constable Darren Fischer tells MyStratfordNow.com that he was biking around the city on patrol Friday morning when he saw the teenage male tipped from his kayak on the north side of the river.

Fischer says the young man was able to swim to land and he and the family members he was out with were able to bring the kayak to shore.

He says it’s important to make sure you’re safe at all times.

“Even on a small body of water like our Avon River or Lake Victoria, it’s important to have all those safety measures in place, make sure you have your life jacket on, make sure you have all of your safety equipment with you and just be careful overall.”

He says the water was drained from the kayak and the male was then able to resume his trip.
